Summer Afternoon
A batik painting of two people relaxing in deckchairs enjoying the warmth of the sun. A few years ago, as I walked through St James' Park in London, I took a number of photographs of people in deckchairs. I love the way how shadows of people create abstract shapes on the back of deckchairs.
Doing this subject matter as a batik was a challenge as I had to decide when to apply layers of dye and wax for the white/grey stripes before I could apply the blue and green dyes.
